Check Modern Convenience at the Door

Although quite beautiful in a historic sense, the Roosevelt Hotel has room to improve in the ways of modern convenience for the budget minded traveler. No complementary Internet, and no continental breakfast make Samantha a displeased girl. These are elements that the future traveler will assume available with little effort. I am certain that a simple search on reviews of this hotel will lobby complaints on the lack of those two features. The hotel’s management may think such complaints are nominal, but the modern traveler will be deterred by these words when booking a place to stay. This seems like the perfect situation to establish some Integrated Marketing Communication, by providing an exit survey or follow up communication and following through on the results, they could vastly improve their reputation in the travel blogging world.

With our first evening free, but a 9am meeting, three international students and myself head out to explore our surroundings, find sustenance, and locate the nearest provider of free Internet. Our walk takes us one block over to 5th Avenue, where we take in some of the shops including Sephora and a shoe store with high price tags, much to the dismay of our lone male companion.

Shopping. It is what everyone does in New York City.

After rounding up the shoppers, we were out on the street on a quest for food. Passing by some swanky joints, we find a 24 hour deli near MoMA to partake in the most delicious, and fairly inexpensive, hot sandwiches in the city. The night concluded with a walk by Rockefeller Center to see the skaters, where I noticed the professional photographer situated in the middle of the rink to snap shots of tourists in front of the Prometheus statue. This reminded me of roller coasters use of cameras to increase revenue by selling photographs of riders a the end of the ride. In this situation however, the prevalence of digital cameras most likely keeps profits down.
